Years ago, while wandering around the MET as a teen, I stumbled across Degas’ “Bather Stepping Into A Tub”, and was instantly drawn to the intimacy of the piece. Degas' bather paintings capture a profound sense of intimacy, revealing the private moments of their subjects with a delicate and empathetic touch… creating a refreshing narrative around the nude body. These depictions of bathers are not mere observations of the human form, but rather windows into the hidden aspects of their lives.

As life continues to grow more complex and industrialized, I am always drawn to the moments seen as more mundane / brushing your hair after a shower, sipping coffee in your small apartment, lounging after a bath.

By highlighting the unguarded moments of these bathers, we are underscoring the notion that intimacy is not solely about physical proximity, but also about emotional and psychological closeness.
