You’ve all asked.. so here we are! Launching our intro to the expressive figure workshop! Try something new, or hone in on your foundations, with our one-day intensive class. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced artist looking to refine your skills, our class offers a comprehensive exploration of the human figure.

Throughout the day, you'll learn the fundamental principles of figurative drawing and painting, focusing on gestural structure, anatomy, emotive poses, and expression. Guided by myself and Bri Wenke, you'll discover techniques to capture the essence and movement of the human form, translating it onto paper or canvas with your own unique style!

One of the highlights of our class is the opportunity to work with a live figure model. Immerse yourself in the dynamic process of observing and sketching from life, honing your ability to interpret and interpret the nuances of the human body.

Whether you're interested in realism, impressionism, or exploring your own unique style, our Figurative Drawing and Painting Class offers a supportive and inspiring environment to unleash your creativity and expand your artistic horizons.

Included but not limited to:

  • Understanding basic proportions and anatomy in figure drawing

  • Exploring various drawing techniques such as gesture drawing, contour drawing, and blocking-in

  • Learning how to capture movement and gesture in a figure in an expressive quality

  • Observing the nuance of the figure with a live, nude model for one hour

  • Experimenting with different mediums such as charcoal, graphite, or ink

  • Understanding the importance of composition and how to arrange figures within a composition

  • Introduction to basic portraiture and facial structure

  • Learning how to apply paint with different brushes and techniques

  • Experimenting with different painting surfaces such as canvas or paper

  • Understanding the role of values and contrast in creating dynamic paintings

  • Receiving personalized feedback and guidance from the instructor to improve technique and style

  • Catered lunch, snacks and drinks for breaks throughout the day!

  • You will leave the studio with several gesture studies on canvas and paper, and work towards a larger piece on 16x20” canvas
