the heavy, quiet burden of internalized shame keeps us small. often passed down; we are an extension of our mother’s anguish. how can we further explore the interrelation between Mother and Daughter; while also not discounting the immense sacrifice and depletion both roles entail? the unresolved anger and grief of the Mother, for all she had to surrender in order to bring forth new life. the pretense and emptiness of the daughter, for the need to choose between acceptance and agency; before she is even aware it’s a choice she must make.

as Daughters and Mothers, the oleander translates to the lethal wounding we’ve ingested, forced to swallow the bitterness of....in order to survive our trauma bonds. a high price to pay for the illusion of peace from those which give us life.
